Why
Motorsport?
Motorsport
is an exciting sport that -
- Promotes
the image of the companies advertising through similar characteristics,
such as the professionalism, the competitiveness & the advanced
technology associated in the industries.
- The majority
of the population can relate to the sport as most drive cars.
- Within the
companies involved, it creates team building, confidence, motivation
& competitiveness amongst the workers to improve, take risks &
involve with changes for future gains.
- The size
of the cars allows for greater advertising signage & greater opportunities
for other companies to join the team. It promotes or increases
business networking between firms, to aid the financial benefits
of everyone involved, through the use of hospitality at certain
events.
- Provides
opportunities to receive media print & television coverage.
- The majority
of companies currently involved have been associated with teams
for over five years, proving the sport as a valuable marketing
tool.
- Some sports
have had their image tainted by allegations of poor conduct &
activities by individuals. Motorsport has had a very clean professional
image for many years.

Profile
RP
Motorsport Developments began operating in June 2004, under the
direction of Robert Palermo. The business is involved in providing
motorsport services to the motorsport industry. The various services
available are professional mechanical preparation, advanced data
analysis, track support race engineering, team management & sponsorship
marketing assistance.
Robert
has over 12 years experience in motorsport, having worked in Production
cars, Formula style racecars, V8 Supercars & 2-litre touring cars
in Australia. He has also worked internationally for Le Man 24-hour
race teams in the UK, Europe, Japan & the US. While in the UK, Robert
spent two years at Jordan Formula One. Prior to this, he had completed
an apprenticeship with distinction as a motor mechanic.
During
this time, Robert achieved many goals of his own & for the teams.
Success came by many high podium finishes & race event wins, working
with drivers such as David Brabham, Jim Richards, John Bowe & Garth
Tander. The positions he was employed as were varied from being
a No.1 mechanic to Race Engineer.
At
this time, Robert is currently assisting a V8 Supercar team with
the development of their new VY Commodore. For 2005, Robert is seeking
to run a team in the Formula Ford National Championship, which supports
the V8 Supercars & the Konica Minolta series around Australia to
assist the development of junior drivers & engineers. Program involvement
is preferred to be over 3 years to ensure maximum affect for the
sponsors, however terms & options are negotiable.
While
V8 Supercars may be the pinnacle of Australian Motorsport, the costs
are significantly higher. If any companies haven't been exposed
to motorsport before, but are keen to become involved, Formula Ford
is the perfect platform to begin their involvement while retaining
some caution, yet experiencing the thrill of motorsport & receiving
valuable exposure.
The
business of RP Motorsport Developments may be associated with teams
in other categories, such as Porsche Carrera Cup & V8 Supercars
should you find Formula Ford doesn't fit the companies image. Please
contact for further details & suitable budgets.
What
is Formula Ford?
- The car
Robert wishes to prepare is a Spectrum Formula Ford, built & designed
in Australia.
- The international
class is recognized as one of the breeding grounds for young &
talented drivers. Over 90% of the drivers in F1, including Australia's
Mark Webber, V8 Supercar drivers Marcos Ambrose, Garth Tander,
Steven Richards & Larry Perkins have won titles & many more.
- The sole
Australian manufacturer, Spectrum, has won one national championship
& several state championships over the last 5 years. The manufacturer
has been a consistent race winner & finished 2nd in the 2004
championship.
- The chassis
are manufactured out of steel tubing with fibreglass bodywork.
A Ford 4-cylinder 1.6 litre engine powers the cars, have a 4 speed
manual gearbox & Avon control tyres. In 2006, a new generation
Ford engine will be available of similar capacities & dimensions.
Ford plan to promote this engine through this category with the
release of the new vehicle in 2006.
- Ford Australia
provides support for the series & has guaranteed that the class
will be a support event to the V8 Supercars & Konica championships
for a number of years.
- The National
championship competes in the following states over 8 events, of
which there are 3 races per event. The meetings are held in the
following states -
- NSW
(Wakefield Park, Oran Park & Eastern Creek)
- Vic
(Sandown & Winton)
- QLD
(Willowbank)
- SA (Mallala)
- WA (Barbagallo)
The Driver
The majority
of the drivers contesting the Formula Ford National Championship
are male, aged 16-25 years. Several women also compete & are similarly
aged. Most have previous kart experience. Many have gone on to compete
nationally & internationally.
At this stage,
Robert has a list of potential drivers available & the major sponsor
may have a say on who could drive their entered car to better suit
their marketing requirements, regarding gender, nationality & experience.
While every step is taken to ensure they meet the sponsors profile,
Robert can assist with the decision making to ensure the driver
is capable of winning to maximize the sponsors exposure.
