Demographics
Netball
is recognised as the largest participation sport in the country
with in excess of 330,000 registered players participating in
formal netball competitions. This figure does not include the
hundreds of thousands of school children and other non-affiliated
participants playing netball. Figure 1.1 provides an overview
of the Netball structure nationally.

Netball
nationally consists of eight (8) State bodies, as highlighted
above, all of who are affiliated with the national body, Netball
Australia. Each State operates with relative independence, managing
their own programs and events based on the specific development
requirements and resources of their membership.
Netball Australia manages a range of programs and events including
the Australian Netball Team, Australian 21&Under Netball Team,
Commonwealth Bank Trophy competition, National Underage and Open
Championships, along with National participation, coaching and
umpire development programs.
Membership rates vary from State to State, with Victoria and New
South Wales having the largest participation numbers. Table 1.1
provides a membership breakdown nationally.

Netball in Victoria
Netball
Victoria has approximately 250 affiliated associations from across
the State. Affiliation with Netball Victoria provides access to
netball events, program and services, as well as a pathway for
players, coaches, umpires and officials to State representation.

Netball
in Western Australia
Netball
is the largest participation sport in Western Australia. Within
WA the sport touches diverse levels from FunNet for 6 year olds
through to Women's, Men's, Veterans and people with disability
competitions. The Perth Orioles are the State's premier Netball
team.
WA
Netball has over 32,000 members, with 99% of these people being
female. When you consider that the bulk of household, financial
and purchasing decisions are made by females you can appreciate
the potential for developing a sponsorship partnership with this
sport. Netball's 'reach' is far greater than our membership, with
an estimated 100,000 people involved each week during the season
as players, coaches, umpires, administrators, volunteers and spectators
at Associations throughout the State.

in Queensland
Netball
Queensland is the governing body responsible for the marketing,
administration and development of Netball in Queensland. Netball
Queensland provides services to 100 Member Associations hosting
over 50,000 registered members throughout the State. The graph
below indicates the thousands of children & adults alike, playing
netball at schools and clubs throughout Queensland.

is predominantly played by children aged 12-16yrs, but is
also enjoyed by a large percentage of adults 25 and over.

In
addition to netball's 50,000 strong player base, it is estimated
that in excess of 10,000 volunteers administer and officiate the
sport at grassroots level.
2001
marked the beginning of a new era for Netball Queensland, with
a significant re-structure aimed at better servicing our 100 Member
Associations throughout the State.
