Background
The Sydney C.D.I.
*** is recognised as the foremost FEI Dressage Competition in
Australia. The Sydney CDI*** is an established event that has
been running for 11 years. The event is the only one of its type
at "three-star" level and attracts Olympic-calibre horses and riders
from all over Australia as well as from New Zealand, and Europe.
In 2004 we were delighted to have riders from Great Britain, Sweden,
the USA, and New Zealand competing. Our visiting International riders
(except for NZL who bring their own horses) ride horses kindly loaned
to them by local owners. The addition of international riders is
a key attraction for the event and makes it truly international.
We intend to invite four nations to take part in the 2005 Sydney
CDI***.
Mr Eric Lette
(O level Judge from Sweden), will head the ground jury supported
by Mr Uwe Spenlen (Germany), Mrs Lilo Fore (USA), Mrs Kathinka de
Monchy (New Zealand) and leading judges from around Australia.
Following on
from the success of last year, a young dressage horse competition
will form part of the dressage programme along with "The Advanced
Tournament" which was so successful in 2004.
ShowJumping
competitions will again be part of the event this year. In 2004
showjumping events were held over the weekend and was enthusiastically
received by the public and the dressage and jumping communities.
Venue
The event will
be held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) at
Horsley Park (site for the Sydney Olympic Games). The main competition
will take place in the magnificent indoor arena.
There will be
extensive advertising and other publicity in various horse magazines,
the general press as well as on radio, in saddleries and riding
establishments. Information on the CDI is also featured on various
web sites as well as the Sydney CDI's own site. www.sydneycdi.com.
A public address
system with professional, informative, and entertaining commentary
will be in operation. In previous years, around 1,000 spectators
attended daily. In 2004, a capacity crowd of around 2500
attend the Saturday evening programme. The atmosphere was fantastic.
The management
at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre reported that this
was the biggest crowd they have had at the venue for any equestrian
event. A great testimony to the popularity of dressage.
We
expect over 5,000 visitors to the event over the four days.
